After having an early night last night, I woke up at the crack of dawn to go down to the beach to watch the highly renowned sunrise. As we were facing east we were lucky that we could see the sun rise over the crisp blue seas in the horizon. I wasn't disappointed either as the sun soon became filled with orange and reds colors before the sun emerged signalling the start of a busy day for me.
Much of my group see me as the adventurous person in the group, and I didn't disappoint this morning booking a zip lining session. After being presented with another brilliant buffet breakfast, I set off on a minibus to the local safari park. I went on my own here as most people wanted to do the elephant trekking who didn't come north, and others saw this trip as relaxing on the beach time! After a short drive into the center of the island which was dense jungle, I got time to look round the local safari park. I thought the animals were treated really badly here though as the elephants were just confined to a single wooden pen and had yellow patches on their skin, and the tigers were chained up for people to take pictures with them. It made me feel much better that I went to a more open place when I saw the Tigers and Elephants up north. Other animals here included monkeys, crocodiles and snakes. It then came to my time for the zip lining, which consisted of many lines all linked by wooden platforms in the trees. There were also high ropes apparatus like ladders and tight ropes. I even got to go upside down on one of the zip lines, although it was rather interesting when I tried to brake!
After finishing this activity, it was back to the hotel, although I got myself dropped off at a temple about a mile before the hotel and walked back so I could see the local market, and some rocks. Filled with little market stalls selling local merchandise and foods, it was a nice and quiet retreat from the beach we were staying on. It was also nice to climb on the rocks which were massive. I also stayed here for lunch where I had a club sandwich, chips and garlic bread. I seem to be going back to normal food at the moment because the Thai food can be so spicy sometimes and I can never read the menu properly!
I then walked back to the hotel and met some of the others down by the beach. By this time is was very hot and it was even unbearable on the feet to walk without sandals on! I basically spent the rest of the day swapping between the sea and sand depending on how I felt. The sea was really rough as well, the kind of waves perfect for surfing. It was fun just floating out in the sea letting the waves bob you up and down. If you went too close to the shore however the occasional wave would literally take you with it and toss you onto the shore! I even got myself completely buried in the sand at one point as well! I didn't risk having a massage like some of the others though because I was worried it would be ticklish, and also the women doing them were rather hench!
In the evening some of us decided to go from our beach (Lamai Beach) to the next beach along (Chaweng Beach) which is the main beach and area of Koh Samui. After catching a truck taxi and meeting some of the others who had been drinking cocktails at a swimming pool party thing all day, we headed to a local restaurant where I had this rice omelette thing. We then first stopped at this bar where there was a pool competition which was simply winner stays on. After seeing the same person repeatedly win over and over again, I thought I would give it a crack and won the game! I then lost to a Thai Girl next game however which kind of put the gloss off the situation! It was then into the next bar, and I was treated with a full match repeat of the Southampton v Arsenal game, although one of the Thai waitresses in there kept coming over to me trying to sell her friends to me! We finally ended up in the Green Mango Club which I am told was featured on Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents which is why we ended up there. It was mental in here, but full of tourists and prostitutes. By about 3ish it was off home, and straight to bed after another busy day!
