Last night was definitely my best night sleep so far as I got a solid 10 hour sleep, and when waking up I thought I was home for a second as the bed felt so similar to mine at home. It was also really nice to have an air con in my room which didn't make so much noise as well. The first thing I had to do when getting up is just look at the sun rising over the dense rainforest, the gentle stream flowing over the rocks, and the diverse range of sounds that made this such a magical setting.
Breakfast this morning consisted of scrambled eggs on toast with fruits, and after breakfast I went for a little walk round the area passing the hotel pool, which was just a deep part of the stream, and headed to the national park entrance for the safari tours, although I did not go in. We were going to do tubing this morning but this did not happen because the water was too shallow. Tubing is like going down the flow of the streams in these rubber ring things.
By 11 we left the rainforest, I wish we had longer, and boarded the bus for the pier head to get a boat to Koh Samui. It was really hot today and for the first time a little sticky too. En route we stopped at a service station for lunch where I had a club sandwich and spicy sausage pasta. The food is so cheap over here I seem to buy two meals at a time!
We then continued to the ferry terminal and soon after arrived to this busy area on the seafront. We said goodbye to the bus driver who had made us laugh over the last few days, and soon after boarded this small car ferry, which over 3 levels presented us with brilliant views of the mainland. By 3 we left, and it was nice to sit and relax, getting a cooling sea breeze. Before long Koh Samui came into view and the palm trees and dense jungle in the centre, along with the golden sands left us with high expectations!
By 5ish we finally arrived at our hotel after a half an hour or so transfer from the main port, it is quite a big island! The hotel room tonight was slightly more basic but the fact we were having two consecutive nights somewhere meant I could nicely settle in! The big plus point with this hotel was the fact it was so near the beach, and had a really big pool compared to others we've been to.
At around half 6 we went down to the beach, passing many little clothes and gift shops, along with little bars. Upon arrival on the beach we had a big table lit up in the fading sunlight with umbrellas and sand at our feet. It was absolute luxury! I had a Samui Island cocktail, and treated myself to a fungi pizza and chips which just melted in my mouth! There was however a problem with payment at the end as the restaurant tried to overcharge us with other peoples cocktails.
After dinner some of us headed down the fire show a little way down the warm sands of the beach, and watched an amazing array of fire twirling and juggling, all finished with some massive fireworks at the end. It was a fitting end to a long day of travelling, and introduction to beach life which I have never really experienced before. After getting walked back to the hotel, passing so many prostitutes along the way, I just zonked our ready for a day of beach life tomorrow.
