February 5th... From Bangkok to Sydney

After having an early night last night and setting my alarm for 8, I had one of them nights of pre flight nerves. I worry a lot. I still got a good night sleep however as my room was pure luxury compared to many I've stayed in in the past! I went downstairs first to collect my laundry, although the guy on the desk knew I was coming so must have been closely watched on the cctv! As Buddy Boutique did not serve breakfast I went across the road to this other hotel for a buffet, which I made the most of stuffing myself with noodles, rice, eggs and then more fruits to finish the meal.

After packing again, which now included all nicely folded clothes, I renewed my debate of sleeping bag or no sleeping bag. I couldn't let go in the end! I didn't want to do anything too demanding today so I headed to the internet cafe to play pool and to try updating my blog. The hill tribe trek put me behind and I still haven't caught up! I have downloaded an app on my phone now as well called "My Notes" which means I can type my blog without WiFi and then copy it into my blog when WiFi is available.

I left for the airport at about half 12, and after one last meeting with tuktuk drivers, and the men selling suits to backpackers down Khao San Road, I walked to Phaya Thai station. I decided to leave from the protest location because it was quicker, cheaper and it is the main airport rail link. En route here another road was blocked which forced me to divert, but other than that the protest seemed to have died down a bit.

I then took the skytrain to the airport, again amazed at how train travel was under a £1! Because Bangkok is so densely populated, they have built railways above the roads, and also an underground system. They are still extending these today. It would be nice to see the difference in say 10 years. I ended up arriving to the airport 5 hours early in the end, and soon found out check in didn't open until 3 hours prior to departure, which meant I had some waiting to do. I spent this time watching planes on the observation deck, and also having lunch. There were loads of university students here though which all kept interviewing me, although it did kill the time!

After finally checking in, I went straight through passport control and security with ease, and was soon in this impressive duty free shopping area. It took me over 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other! Armed with my last 100 baht, I tried to maximise it, although the food was more expensive so I only got some crisps and a chocolate bar. I was baffled by one shop though which sold loads of Leicester City merchandise!

By about 7 I boarded the plane safely and was sitting next to this Norwegian woman and some European man. It was good to play around on my screen again and I watched this show called "Road to Rio". It was nice seeing so much of Rickie Lambert on it! Dinner on the plane this time was snapper and rice with noodles, and a chocolate cheesecake, finished with biscuits. Plane food is actually surprisingly nice. By the time I had finished dinner I was actually really tired so I thought I would try to sleep, not easy on such a small area for a seat! Zzzzzzz.
