February 1st... Moving onto Koh Tao

After having a late night last night, I woke up at half 8ish this morning as nothing group based was planned until 11, when we were scheduled to leave Koh Samui for our next stop, Koh Tao. I destroyed another buffet breakfast, although I can't wait to taste a proper sausage again because everywhere I go they have them weird hot dog sausages or something similar! After packing my bag once again, something I am not probably not going to be able to do when I experience hostels in Australia, I walked down the beach of Samui for one last time to walk along the golden sands and see the blue skies. I am going to miss having my own hotel room and own space in way in Australia, but being in a hostel will enable me to meet new people more easily!

By 11 the group met up again and the people who went out who appeared to stay out all night were noticeably more tired than all the others. After a short drive to the pier which involved us going down a really lane, we emerged at this really busy seafront area which just rammed full of backpackers going to places like Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and the mainland. We were all given a coloured sticker depending on where we were going, so we were pink. We also have to put a tag on our backpack, as the bags were stored at the front of the boat to be distributed upon arrival. After a short wait at the pier we boarded this impressive looking catamaran and were soon speeding through the blue seas. It was nice to see a view of many little islands round here, and also the large amounts of splash the boat was creating. We were expecting to arrive at Koh Tao at around 4ish, so it came as a surprise when at 2ish this island came into view which was Koh Tao. Apparently we didn't make a scheduled stop off at the previous island of Koh Phangan which meant we were able to go more quickly.

Just before landing at Koh Tao, the boat did a drop off the sister island of Koh Nongyuan which was 3 little islands linked by this sandy strip of beach. It looked like something you would see in a postcard or something, not with your bare two eyes! By 2.30 we had landed on Koh Tao and were greeted by all these locals shouting things at us in Thai. Apparently they were people in charge of transfers on the island, but I didn't understand a word they were saying! When the group had all got together we had to board another truck, although it was interesting fitting all of us on. I ended up being the center piece between everyone's legs!

Upon arrival at the Seashell Resort where we staying, we were told that we had been given a free upgrade, and I wasn't disappointed as I got my own double room! We were staying here for 2 nights which again meant I could settle in more again. By this time is gone 3 so everyone was hungry having missed out on lunch, mainly due to the fact that nearly everyone fell asleep on the boat transfer over! We went to the local restaurant and after a wait of over an hour I got a Chilli Jacket Potato with chips. I didn't think about both things being potato based when ordering. The service was awful though as one person ordered a Tofu dish and they told them an hour later it wasn't available! It must have been about 5 when we finally finished our lunch. After having a quick look on the beach, which was much different to Samui as there were many boats docked off the shore, and the beach sands were far smaller, with really gentle waves. The water was very shallow as well, the kind of water perfect for snorkeling.

At 6.30 we had a group meeting where everyone decided to do snorkeling tomorrow, and soon after we went to the local shops which were mainly clothes and souvenirs. It was more expensive here compared to other places though. By about half 7 some of us went to this restaurant for dinner, where I braved a duck curry and some spring rolls. The spring rolls were really weird, wrapped in this thin green stuff full of raw vegetables, and the curry was so hot, even when mixing in all my rice! I still can't below our CEO eats curry without rice as ease!

I then went off to the internet cafe whilst the others all headed back the hotel. After a couple of hours in here, I headed to the bar which was meant to be showing the Fulham v Southampton game, but I was left with a choice of only 3 games as they said the others were unavailable due to limited satellite availability?! I ended up having to watch Man Utd with the glory hunting fans, whilst relying on twitter to keep updated on Southampton. After a successful evening it was straight off to bed ready for a 9am start for snorkeling tomorrow.
